Google organic is still the primary source of traffic with high conversion. For certain niches like CBD, Vaping, and many others organic is the only way to attract visitors due to restrictions on paid search advertising. We are going to review real life success stories and demonstrate how you can boost your organic ranking using both traditional and non-traditional tactics.

Dominating Google’s Organic Search

Welcome to Ecommerce Camp, where today’s topic is Dominating Google’s Organic Search.

Since 2003, my primary focus has been creating custom e-commerce websites. Presently, we manage more than 100 e-commerce businesses daily, and those types of businesses eventually generate about 100,000 to 500,000 visitors a month.

Returning to the topic of search engine optimization, it’s evident that SEO has undergone substantial changes. Despite these transformations, the fundamental principles of SEO remain intact. Google continually rolls out new algorithms to enhance its search results.

It’s an ongoing battle between those striving to secure a spot on Google’s first page and the ever-evolving Google algorithm.

I remember a time when simply purchasing a domain and incorporating keywords into it would automatically propel the site to the top of Google’s rankings.

It was an era when SEO was relatively straightforward—you could acquire an unlimited number of links aggressively by matching the URL with exact keywords. This involved purchasing numerous links from various platforms.

Back then, there was a company named Sipe Event that specialized in selling such backlinks. During that time, achieving high rankings was much easier compared to the current scenario.

However, Google began optimizing its algorithms, introducing updates like Penguin, to combat such manipulative backlink practices. As a result, search engine optimization became more intricate.

Now, one needs to be smarter about the types of backlinks and whether they should be do-follow or no-follow, among other considerations. Ultimately, SEO has evolved into a more sophisticated process.

Many clients express apprehension about taking certain steps themselves due to the fear of potential penalties from Google, which could adversely affect their website.

I do have some clients who are paying 5K–10K for SEO. Again, there is nothing wrong with the pricing; it’s more about you as a business owner.

I think nowadays you have to know at least a little bit of basic SEO when looking at the reports that will be delivered by your search engine optimization agency or your in-house guy,

Now, we probably will be covering a little bit of what you, as a business owner, are supposed to know about social optimization just to make sure you’re paying for quality SEO service.

Google Organic: Step 1. Planning

I would say that before you even start viewing the website, you have to start planning.

It’s quite common for clients to approach me with requests like, “We’ve just launched our website and now we need to implement SEO.” I must be candid here; this scenario is often the most challenging one to address. The biggest pitfall occurs when a website is built without considering SEO from the start. Fixing any issues post-launch can be significantly more costly than if the site had been structured correctly from the beginning.

Typically, the starting point for SEO involves conducting keyword research.

There are several tools I’d personally recommend, such as:

While there are various tools available, they essentially perform similar functions. I’m not trying to endorse any specific tool, but I use SEMrush, and many of my colleagues prefer Ahrefs.

Let me simplify the process for you. The first step is keyword research. You can obtain a package from a tool like SEMrush, for instance.

  1. Enter your desired keywords, conduct a search, and filter the results to gather essential information. This includes data on monthly search volumes and keyword difficulty.

For instance, in SEMrush, there’s a feature called “Keyword Magic Tool,” which consolidates related keywords. This can help you understand search volumes and compile this information into an accessible spreadsheet.

  2. Next, analyze the keyword difficulty, which essentially indicates how competitive these keywords are. This step is crucial in determining which keywords to target for optimal results.

When you export this data into an Excel spreadsheet, it becomes easier to discern which keywords might be simpler or more challenging to rank for. By compiling this information, you can estimate the potential organic traffic for your business. It’s important to note that without a specific website in focus, it’s challenging for me to provide precise details, but this is generally the primary approach.

  3. Once you’ve gathered this data, you’ll have a wealth of information on traffic volumes. Next, align this information with your website’s structure. Consider which sections of your site you need to develop and how you plan to build them.

For instance, let’s take the example of “leggings.”

If you’re targeting the keyword “leggings,” it’s crucial to understand the user intent behind this search term. Users searching for “leggings” could be seeking product pages, articles on styling tips, or even information about materials used in leggings.

Therefore, structuring your website’s content to cater to these varied intents is vital.

For instance, creating specific sections like “Leggings Collection,” “How to Style Leggings,” and “Leggings Fabric Guide” could be strategic. Crafting content that aligns with user intent around the keyword “leggings” will enhance your site’s relevance and appeal to a broader audience.

Understanding user behavior and intent behind specific keywords is key to structuring your website effectively and targeting the right audience segments. This strategic approach will significantly contribute to your SEO success.
